My history with Fitness, food, and life
My relationship with fitness, food, and the thought that drives it all has been quite the roller coaster ride over the years, and I feel that I’m not alone in that thought. Currently I’m sitting at about 265 lbs and at my highest I was a 295 about a year ago. Recently I have been going to the gym 5-6 days a week and trying to clean up my eating act. This has been helping as I’m down some weight, but more importantly for me I can tell I’m getting stronger and am feeling better.
It hasn’t always been this way, I’ve tried fad workouts, given some workout DVDs a chance, and tried various diets. They have all had their ups and down but the one thing that has been consistent with them all is that I haven’t been able to stick with them in the long term and inevitably began to add weight back on.
Food for me has always been safe. It was what I used to pass the time when I was bored, or to help me feel better if things weren’t going my way. The food I was eating was not the best thing for me either, it was heavily processed foods that are engineered to be addictive and “delicious”. While recently I have done my best to work on improving my diet, I still eat the things that are not good. I just try to do them in moderation, unless they are white cheddar Cheese-Its, those are my weakness.
The gym and working out have been a similar story. I always enjoyed being active but I could never work out enough to compensate for how I was eating. Every time I would try to workout it would last a few months then I would l lose motivation and slowly phase it out of my life. Recently I’ve been going to a small gym that does class based HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). This has been working for me and I have been doing this style of workout for the last year or so at various gyms. The latest one started to include weightlifting with cleans, dead lifts, barbell squats, and snatches, all of which I’ve never done before I started at my current gym.
While I know there are seemingly unlimited fitness advice and blogs on the internet and social media, I still wanted to share my story. I want to show what is working for me and what is not as it may be the thing someone reads that gets them to finally start working to get healthier.
I plan on writing about:
- My progress
- Food, meals, recipes
- My failures
- Workouts that I want to share
- anything else that may fit into this category as I come across it
I do want to add a disclaimer that I’m not a physical trainer or anything of the like, I’m just sharing my story and what works for me. Everyone is different, consult your doctor before you make a change in your workout and diet, or don’t, your an adult and should be able to make good choices.
