My journey of weight loss and strength training
Intro:
This week I started an in depth weight loss challenge and want to share my experience, both wins and losses, honestly here with you. Weight loss, working out, and food are struggles for most people, including myself. I’ve gone through ups and downs over the years, trying various diets, workout routines, and gaining and losing weight.
My relationship with Fitness, Weight loss, and Food:
Over the last few years I have finally figured out what is working for me fitness wise. In the past I have gone to the gym and wandered around not knowing what to do. I would slowly put together a basic workout routine, googling endless fitness posts and watching other people workout. The last few years found me working out a few times a week taking boot camp, high intensity, style workouts, and playing volleyball in the gyms racquetball court. Feeling bored with what I was doing I recently joined a new gym that offers a cross-fit style of prescribed high intensity workout that incorporate olympic lifting, HIIT cardio, and power weight lifting. I’m still at this smaller gym, which provides the type of workout and community that I need to be successful in my goals.
The food side of life is another story. I’m addicted to sugar, carbs, and processed food. I try to limit my intake but find myself going on binges of processed, bagged foods, like chips/Hot Fries, energy drinks, and chocolate milk to name a few. Its not that I don’t like “good food” (veggies and lean meats), I’m just always on the road for work and go for the easy meal which is usually never the healthiest option.
Lurong Fitness Challenge for Weight loss and Strength Training
That brings us to today, I’ve been working out 5-6 days a week, trying to eat better but not having much discipline to do so. I lost 35-40 lbs over the spring/summer and have slowly put back 20+ lbs over the last few months. I needed a change to really shock my system. Something that was all encompassing, managing food, strength training, and weight loss. Members at my gym were signing up for the Lurong Living Resolution Challenge, and I jumped on board to give it shot.
This is a 5 week, nation wide fitness challenge that scores you in many different ways. You get points for the quality of diet, setting goals for yourself, and weekly workouts. The culmination of these scores give you a total personal score which also get added into your teams(gym) score. Depending on how well you did you have a chance to win various prizes.
