Are Wyze Products Any Good?
The Wyze Cam and other smart home products have stormed onto the market in recent years. The question I’m sure your asking is: Are they any good? I’m here to tell you that, in my opinion, they are. I have been using them for over a year as an impromptu home security system as well as utilizing them for some of my smart home projects.
Wyze has a a bunch of different products from basic 1080p cameras, cameras that you can pan and tilt, smart lightbulbs, as well as motion detectors, contact sensors, and smart sockets. The products also integrate seamlessly with my amazon echo set up and do not require a “hub” to use, they also work with the google home devices in a similar fashion.

What does my WYZE smart home set up look like?
I started researching many different smart home products when I wanted to get a system that would allow me to watch my house and keep and eye on my dogs while I was at work. I looked into various systems such as the NEST cameras, Blink, and Ring indoor and outdoor cameras. These all seemed super expensive for what I was trying to accomplish, which is where WYZE comes into play. The Ways camera seemed on paper to offer all the features that I wanted out of a camera, without the major price tag.
There is an app that allows me to control all my smart home devices right from my phone. The Wyze Cam V2 is a 1080p high resolution camera that you can set to record to their cloud system when it is activated, or have it set to continuously record to a micro SD card inserted into the camera. It has both IR night vision as well as a speaker and microphone (which sounds ok) so that you can both hear and talk through the camera from anywhere on your phone. One of the newer features that the camera has is people and motion detection, I use this on the camera that I have in my driveway to alert me if someone is in my driveway. While I have it to watch my cars and house while I’m sleeping or away, it mostly just tells me when any delivery driver is there to drop off a package.
The indoor devices are just as cool. I have the motion detector (haven’t found a use, but may put it in my garage), the contact sensor ( which is on my front door), and the WYZE Bulbs which are in various spots around my house. The neat thing with these is that the seamlessly integrate with my amazon echo account so that I can use my voice to control them all. They also can be added into groups in my Alexa app. some examples are, I have a timer set on my front door contact sensor that if it opens between 5pm and 6am (night) it will turn on the wyze light I have in my living room. Another example using my Amazon Echo is that when i say :”Alexa, Goodnight” , all Wyze lights shut off, and ocean sounds turn on with a 45 minute sleep timer.
